Prepare to teach in a "toggle" environment

Technology Notes

We offer assistance through our LibGuides (library guides) where we can create and curate content for you. We are also available for individual consultations. Contact us at library@shsst.edu.

Technology Coaching: Contact Kathy Harty (kharty@shsst.edu) for help using Populi and Zoom in your fall courses.

Populi Course Preparation: As you prepare to teach in person and online please use these and other features in Populi. The consistent layout in our LMS tool makes it easy for students to find course information. Test these helpful tabs.

  • Dashboard: Use this to communicate with students, post on the Bulletin Board!
  • Syllabus: Post the final version, using the template
  • Assignments: List assignments, dates due, grading information
  • Conferences: Where you schedule your zoom sessions
  • Calendar: Students will be able to see at a glance when assignments are due
  • Discussions: List your online discussion assignments here. Try various options for full participation: designate a student as a discussion leader, ask for specific types of posts and responses.
  • Tests: give a quiz or list essay questions

Tips from the Registrar

Registrar Julie O'Connor reminds faculty to include discussion posting time in the Coursework Calculator each week.

Covid-19 Update | November 2020

Welcome to the Faculty Newsletter

Sacred Heart remains in Phase 2 of the Covid-19 Operational Response Plan. We are closed to the public. Faculty may visit the library, please let us know you are coming. Remember the following:

Face coverings are worn in public spaces, meetings, and/or when leaving offices (phases 1, 2, and 3).
3-6 ft. distancing required.
All touched public surfaces are sanitized frequently. Custodial staff will implement and maintain enhanced cleaning protocols.

Interlibrary loan and SWITCH borrowing are available. Bin delivery between the SWITCH schools has resumed. We will continue to add tips for hybrid teaching. The library staff is ready to help, please let us know how.

Kind regards,

Faculty Online Teaching Tips

Dr. Paul Monson urges us to

"Be clear about communication expectations on your end as the professor. You cannot be available at all hours of the night or weekend. It's unreasonable and unhealthy."
