The Leo Dehon Library houses a comprehensive theological and scriptural collection of over 85,000 volumes in a light, inviting space. The collection has special strengths in the areas of church history, social justice, Mozarabic liturgy, and canon law, and is enhanced by extensive holdings in philosophy, psychology, and the arts. The library is a major repository of materials on the devotion to, and theology and spirituality of, the Sacred Heart, as well as resources on the Priests of the Sacred Heart and Dehonian spirituality. Reference works are located on the counter-height shelves on the main floor, and are identified by “REF” preceding the call number. Books in the “REF” section are for in-library use only. Some commentaries can be checked out for brief periods; see library staff to learn more.
The library has access to numerous print and electronic journal subscriptions, and provides access to databases supporting theological study and research. It also offers a substantial collection of audiovisual materials in various formats. The
library website provides information about hours, services, resources, and policies as well as access to the catalog and databases.
Current print periodicals and journals are located in the reading area at the far end of the library. Bound periodicals are located on the upstairs shelves labeled “Serials,” arranged alphabetically by title. Bound volumes as well as current issues may NOT be removed from the library.
Many of our periodicals are available online through the library catalog and our databases.
